The Nominating and Board Development Committee of the Board of Directors of Mental Health America is requesting assistance in recommending candidates to serve on the Board of Directors of Mental Health America and its committees.
We are seeking candidates who will serve with enthusiasm and creativity in our work toward the attainment of our vision of a just, humane and healthy society in which all people are accorded respect, dignity, and the opportunity to achieve their potential free from stigma and prejudice.
Mental Health America is dedicated to helping all people live mentally healthier lives. The Nominating Committee is especially interested in ensuring that the board and committees comprise dedicated leaders who represent the universe of diverse constituents that our organization serves and collaborates with.
Nominees elected to the board will serve a three-year term beginning in June of 2014 and are eligible to be elected for a second three-year term. The board meets four times a year. Generally, three meetings are held at the Mental Health America offices in Alexandria, VA, and one is held at the Annual Conference site. Board members are expected to attend those meetings either in person or by telephone and to serve on one or more of board committees, which meet in conjunction with the board meetings and via conference calls throughout the year. It is also expected that board members will annually either personally make or help to identify some level of financial contribution to Mental Health America.
Committee members serve one-year terms with no term limitations. The chair of the board appoints committee members but takes the recommendations of the Nominating Committee into account when doing so.
The enclosed nomination form solicits information about the kind of experience and expertise that a candidate has to offer Mental Health America. Self-nominations are welcome. Additionally, attached is a list of expectations for board and committee members.
Nominations are due February 3, 2014. The forms should go to Dianne Felton at the National Office.
