Effective Business Practices in Workplace Mental Health
With stress, burnout, and turnover on the rise, Mental Health America (MHA) and the National Organization on Disability (NOD) present “Effective Business Practices in Workplace Mental Health,” an overview of 2022’s most prominent workplace mental health challenges and effective business practices to directly improve employee mental health outcomes. This webinar will focus on recommendations that incorporate leadership investment, managerial support, and employee empowerment as drivers for positive workplace culture and employee mental health. In addition, two employers will present how they translate these practices into action and how other employers can replicate them in their workplaces.
In this presentation, we will:
- Discuss effective business practices in three domains - (1) Leadership Investment, (2) Managerial Support, and (3) Employee Empowerment
- Explore how two employers put these practices into action

Taylor Adams, Director, Workplace Mental Health, Mental Health America
Taylor Adams (she/her) spearheads MHA’s efforts on its Bell Seal for Workplace Mental Health national employer recognition program and its annual Mind the Workplace reports. Her previous work was focused on suicide prevention, and she brings this experience to support companies in evaluating and refining policies to support staff in their mental health journeys. Mental Health America (MHA) - founded in 1909 - is the nation’s leading community-based nonprofit dedicated to addressing the needs of those with mental illness and promoting overall mental health for all.
Jacquilyn Davis, DEI & Engagement Coordinator, Mental Health Connecticut
Established in 1908, Mental Health Connecticut (MHC) is a statewide, nonprofit organization whose mission is to partner with individuals, families, and communities to create environments that promote long-term health and wellness. Jacquilyn’s journey into JEDI work has been a lifelong one - full of a passion for history, cultural humility, and commitment to antiracism. Jacquilyn is the founder and chair of MHC’s Equity, Social Justice & Antiracism Advisory Committee. Jacquilyn also serves as a Board member of the Connecticut Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (CTGLC) and received a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace certificate from the University of Florida, Muma College of Business.
Merrill Friedman, Regional Vice President, Inclusive Policy & Advocacy, Elevance Health
Merrill leads inclusive policy and advocacy for Elevance Health. She works collaboratively with advocates, community leaders, and stakeholders to ensure the interests and preferences of diverse communities inform our health benefits approaches and healthcare programs. In addition, she leads strategic partnerships with national and local organizations to advance access, health equity, and inclusive public policy.
